Managing Dental Anxiety
Do you feel nervous and anxious when thinking about dental visits? According to statistics, about 40 percent of Canadian citizens have some fear of going to the dentist. So, if you’re one of them, don’t fret because dental anxiety is manageable.
Here at Dr. Parekh and Associates, we strive to help you improve your oral health without you feeling anxious or scared. We care about your comfort and dental health care.
Managing Dental Anxiety Tips
Open Communication: Tell your dentist and the dental staff on how you feel about your checkup. Sharing your fears and expressing your concerns will help you feel better and will also help your dentist adapt to the treatment you need.
Deep Breathing Exercises: You can avoid being anxious when you know how to put your mind at ease. Deep breathing exercises can help reduce stress levels and increase oxygen levels in your body, which helps prevent panic and anxiety attacks.
Distract yourself: You can wear a headphone and listen to some music that can help you feel more relaxed and comfortable when having your dental checkup. You may also hold a stress ball or play with a fidget spinner so you can distract yourself.
Read positive reviews: If you don’t have a dentist yet, we recommend that you read positive reviews on a dental office and the dentist in your area. Knowing that you’re in good hands can help decrease your anxiety levels.
Avoid caffeine and sugary food: Caffeine and sweet food can increase your anxiety so we advise that you eat high-protein food, which has a calming effect that can help you feel relaxed before going to a dental office.
